Open door or window
If a window or patio door is opened near a thermostat valve and it is cool outside, will/should a thermostat valve which is not entirely closed – but set to frost protection – turn on the heating?
Reply: If the thermostat is set to frost protection, it will turn on the water supply to the radiator if it registers a temperature of below for instance 5 °C. Unfortunately, this function may age, with the result that the valve turns on the water supply to the radiator already at 12 °C.
In most properties, there is no real reason to use frost protection as the individual flat will always receive heat from one or more neighbouring flats. Remove any block so that the thermostat can be turned off completely.
